The rain stopped for almost exactly 4 hours in honor of the Paddletally trip to Graham Creek Saturday. It was drizzling at 9:00 while I was driving on the Interstate and again at 4:00 as I returned home. While we were on the water though, it was overcast but warm and dry. The plan to shuttle to Gardner Landing was thwarted by the fact that the road to Gardner Landing was completely under water like almost everything else in the area. Undaunted, 10 of us set out to conquer Tate's Hell. Several miles into Tate's Hell we stopped to picnic at the lovely picnic site in the photo below. Some happy camper even left us a grapefruit and her half read copy of "Fellowship of the Ring". It appears that for some reason she left in a hurry??? We paddled down to the confluence with the East river but Graham Creek, the East river and the surrounding "land" had all merged into one big broad swamp. We were too early to see the Tupelo's bloom. We guess we will just have to go again in April. |
