7/05/03 Upper Sopchoppy, obstructed paths and a naked bear!

Saturday I paddled the ten miles of the upper Sopchoppy , Forest road 13 to Forest Rd 329,with a friend. The water level was about perfect for this swampy twisty turny section(14 feet at the Sopchoppy gauge)We did a bicycle shuttle on the path(and I use that term very loosely)directly to the west of the river. On this path we observed a creature that was either a bare bear or a creature from Mars.

The decision to take this so called path was probably not a wise one, although I enjoyed its challenge my friend is barely on speaking terms with me. Only 5miles on the GPS it took us well over an hour and a half to navigate the the hundreds of downed logs and THICK bushes obstructing the path.Yes we wre both bleeding from multible cuts and abrasions.I highly recommend it only if you wear the appropriate armor.
